Lunch Buddies: Tutor in Reading at Rupley Elementary in Elk Grove Village

Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) needs you to help inspire a love of reading in low-income students.

What: Lunch Buddies is an in-school tutoring program designed to promote favorable attitudes toward books. The program additionally strengthens the fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills of elementary school kids. Under the supervision of program staff and/or volunteer leaders, volunteers can enjoy lunch and work with small groups of first, second, and third graders.

Where and When: We are now accepting applications for spring 2020, which begins January 22 and runs through April 29. Volunteer tutors are needed on Wednesdays from 11:45 AM-12:35 PM at Rupley Elementary School (305 Oakton St, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007). Weekly commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo a background check. Mandatory orientation/training is TBD in early January.
Why: Tutoring is a fun and rewarding experience. In addition to the satisfaction that comes with positively impacting those in need, volunteering in schools is an ideal way to meet new people, enhance your resume, and/or learn new skills.
