Mission

Connecting People with Purpose

Our Mission: To positively impact communities by connecting people to enriching volunteer experiences.

By harnessing the power of volunteers, HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) strengthens 44 communities and builds capacity for over 100 nonprofits in Northern Cook and Northern DuPage Counties. In addition to helping nonprofits, HOSC volunteers also help support a large underserved population of seniors with a wide array of services that helps them age in place, promote socialization and reduce isolation. Additionally HOSC mobilizes volunteers to deliver academic and social support to under resourced and at-risk youth. HOSC also educates nonprofits about volunteerism and best practices in the field through yearly trainings and classes to our communities.

We accomplish our mission by: Recruiting and connecting volunteers with area nonprofits and schools and educating and training the community about best practices in volunteer management.

Our major programs include:

  • Volunteer Referral Program refers thousands of new volunteers annually to over 100 nonprofit organizations and schools.
  • School Programs mobilize volunteers to help hundreds of area at-risk youth with academic, social, and service learning activities.
  • AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP connects hundreds of individuals 55+ with area nonprofits. The program helps seniors age in place, reduce isolation and promote socialization.
  • Community Paint-a-thon, is a community partnership that provides exterior home painting and light repair services to low income seniors, individuals with disabilities and veterans.
