PADS Volunteer

JOURNEYS | The Road Home is in urgent need of volunteers. Since we are a social service agency for the homeless, we are required to stay open, however, we have shelters that are closing due to the virus and lack of volunteers. We are looking for all volunteers, new and current that are under 60 years old. We have put that rule in place since the CDC recommended that the 60 and older population takes social distancing more seriously, since they are more susceptible. Arlington Heights Resale Volunteer

Do you LOVE shopping for clothing, accessories, shoes, books, household items? Put that knowledge to a great cause by joining our team at the WINGS Arlington Heights Resale Store! It is a fun way to become a part of a great organization that helps needy families in our community. Volunteers partner with the running of the store by sorting donations as they come in, organizing particular sections of the store, or greeting and helping customers! Depending on your skills and interests, you can help with cashiering, sorting donations, pricing merchandise, organizing and stocking items on the sales floor, assisting customers with furniture pickups, cleaning dressing rooms, and straightening the clothes racks and sales floor. The store provides the largest and most consistent form of funding for our program, which helps adults and children in situations of domestic violence. The store also allows the clients in our program to shop for clothing and household items they need at no cost to them! Anyone age 14 or older is welcome to get involved. We also welcome volunteers ages 12-13 if they are accompanied by a parent. Background checks and an Orientation are required.

Donation Sorter at the WINGS Logistic Center

Sorters graciously accept boxes and bags full of donated items from members of our community (and, occasionally politely decline items we unfortunately cannot accept). Then, often working together, the sorter(s) will inspect the items for damage and put them into the appropriate categories for further pricing and processing (eg. women’s clothing, kid's toys, books, etc.). Depending on the section, items may also be placed on a hanger, receive a tag or size sticker, etc. Items that are out of season are bagged and stored for pick-up from our recycler. Sorters are also always looking out for special treasures (high-end, name brand items, items with tags, some antiques, etc.). The specifics of our sorting system are learned through on-the-job training. Large group up to 25 volunteers are welcome!

Front Desk Assistant

JOURNEYS | The Road Home is in urgent need of volunteers. Since we are a social service agency for the homeless, we are required to stay open. Front Desk volunteers at the HOPE Center under 60 years old are needed. We have put that rule in place since the CDC recommended that the 60 and older population takes social distancing more seriously, since they are more susceptible. Join our dedicated team of volunteers who are the first to welcome our clients into the HOPE Center. Front Desk Assistants are responsible for general office tasks such as greeting clients, serving meals, assisting the HOPE Center case managers, filing, etc. Don't have any office experience? That's fine, we will have one of our very talented current volunteers show you the ropes! We are looking for all volunteers, new and current. We have canceled all in-person orientations and have created an electronic orientation, so when you express interest, you will be forwarded the presentation.
