If you need to fulfill Court Appointed volunteer requirements please follow these instructions.

Below is a list of specific volunteer opportunities from area nonprofits who will accept mandatory court appointed volunteers. The Advanced Search will allow you to refine the search criteria by age, location, interests area or any of the other available options.

Once you find a volunteer opportunity that is of interest:

  • Click on the title to view full volunteer opportunity description
  • Next, click on the “Express Interest” box near the bottom of the description page to send your contact information to the volunteer coordinator of the organization you selected
  • You will be asked to register as a volunteer and then the information will be sent. Be sure you see a confirmation pop-up and/or receive a confirmation email.
  • The volunteer coordinator will contact you via phone or email to discuss your participation in their program. Please allow 3-5 business days to be contacted, If you are not contacted in this time, go back to the opportunity listing and use the email link to contact the organization.

Note: There are age requirements and offense exclusions that may preclude an organization from allowing you to fulfill your court appointed hours. It is at the discretion of the specific nonprofit organization.

Be aware that it does take some time to get started with most of the programs, so it may take 2 weeks or more before you can begin your hours.

Pioneer Day, The Grove National Historic Landmark

June 23 @ 10:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m. Discover how pioneers, like the Kennicott family who settled at The Grove, lived, worked and played. Costumed volunteers will take visitors on a journey to the past with hands-on activities like cooking, candle dipping, pioneer games,wool carding and tinsmithing. Refreshments will be available for purchase. We have two shifts. The first is from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. and the second is from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

USA Boccia National Tournament

Boccia is a competitive sport for athletes who use a wheelchair. This year, USA Boccia Nationals will host 100 athletes from across the nation. The tournament will take place June 28th through July 1st. Volunteers will be able to select which days, time slots and roles they would like to participate. Roles include, but are not limited to: Line Judges, Scorekeepers, Timers, Lunch support and more! Volunteer for one shift or for the whole tournament! Your time and care are essential toward making the tournament a success. No experience with Boccia? No problem! We will offer training dates to introduce you to the sport prior to the tournament. No experience is necessary, however, we do ask that volunteers be 16 years of age or older. Every volunteer will receive a free t-shirt, lunch and be on the front line for witnessing the next USA Boccia National Champion! Come and see how we roll!

Chicago Regional Boccia Invite

Our Chicagoland athletes are on a roll! The Chicagoland Regional Boccia Invitational welcomes athletes who use wheelchairs from throughout Illinois to compete in Boccia. Volunteers are an essential piece toward making this tournament a success! Your volunteer role has the opportunity to record the score, monitor times of the matches and aid with lunch support. Corporate Group Volunteer Opportunity! Help Homeless Women And Children.

Community Threads is a 100% non-profit resale store located in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. The profits raised by our store benefit local charities and provide scholarships for children's education, grants given to a homeless shelter and food pantry in Chicago, and funds for leadership training programs. We are able to accept items and sell them at an affordable price and keep items out of the landfills. Community Threads is a great environment for groups to serve in because we have numerous departments and tasks to work in and complete. Our staff members are equipped with instruction for leading groups on a variety of projects-from lifting and moving boxes of donations, to sorting clothing, housewares, toys, and jewelry, to helping organize and clean our sales floor. Both sitting and standing jobs are available. Arlington Heights Resale Volunteer

Do you LOVE shopping for clothing, accessories, shoes, books, household items? Put that knowledge to a great cause by joining our team at the WINGS Arlington Heights Resale Store! It is a fun way to become a part of a great organization that helps needy families in our community. Volunteers partner with the running of the store by sorting donations as they come in, organizing particular sections of the store, or greeting and helping customers! Depending on your skills and interests, you can help with cashiering, sorting donations, pricing merchandise, making creative and appealing displays, designing stylish clothing combinations for mannequins, organizing and stocking items on the sales floor, assisting customers with furniture pickups, cleaning dressing rooms, and straightening the clothes racks and sales floor. The store provides the largest and most consistent form of funding for our program, which helps adults and children in situations of domestic violence. The store also allows the clients in our program to shop for clothing and household items they need at no cost to them! Anyone age 16 or older is welcome to get involved. We also welcome volunteers ages 13, 14, or 15 if they are accompanied by a parent. Background checks and an Orientation are required.

Third Lake Sparrow's Nest Thrift Store Volunteer

Home of the Sparrow provides a shelter, affordable housing and programs and services for area homeless women and children. We also operate seven Sparrow's Nest Thrift Stores, with all net proceeds directly supporting our programs and services. Volunteers at our thrift stores have a great time and really enjoy making new friends and giving back to the community. The stores are open weekdays from 10 am – 7 pm, and on Saturdays from 10 am – 5 pm. PADS Volunteer - Overnight Shifts

Donation Sorter at the WINGS Logistic Center

Sorters graciously accept boxes and bags full of donated items from members of our community (and, occasionally politely decline items we unfortunately cannot accept). Then, often working together, the sorter(s) will inspect the items for damage and put them into the appropriate categories for further pricing and processing (eg. women’s clothing, kid's toys, books, etc.). Depending on the section, items may also be placed on a hanger, receive a tag or size sticker, etc. Items that are out of season are bagged and stored for pick-up from our recycler. Sorters are also always looking out for special treasures (high-end, name brand items, items with tags, some antiques, etc.). The specifics of our sorting system are learned through on-the-job training. Large group up to 25 volunteers are welcome!
