Board Director Member for Kenneth Young Center (KYC)

Kenneth Young Center (KYC) is a local, community mental health and older adult services provider. For almost 50 years, we serve people in times of distress and crisis to help them feel good, do better and find solutions. The Board of Directors is responsible for ensuring effective and fiscally sound programs and operations by providing organizational governance, advice and direction to the CEO in implementing the mission of the organization.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend and participate in at least 70% of regular and special Board meetings
  • Prepare for each Board of Directors meeting by reading material distributed prior to the meeting
  • Serve and actively participate on at least one Board committee
  • Serve and actively participate on a special events committee and bring participants to the event
  • Make a personal financial contribution to the organization
  • Maintain knowledge of current programs
  • Share resources and talents with the organization including expertise, contacts for financial support and contacts for in-kind contributions
  •  Identify individuals for potential membership on the Board of Directors and its committees
  • Serve as a mentor to a newly elected Board member if requested
  • Be accessible to other Board Directors as needed
  • Fulfill commitments within the agreed-upon deadlines
  • Hold in confidence any proprietary information given to the Board
  • Take initiative and provide leadership
  • Chief Executive Officer (CEO) qualifications are required to contribute to such tasks as:
    • Approve changes to Articles of Incorporation, bylaws and strategic planning responsibilities
    • Resource Development responsibilities
    • Board oversight around programs, real estate transactions, merges or dissolution's
    • Financial responsibilities including budget, investment, borrowing and audit oversignt/approval
    • Risk management
    • Performance and quality improvement review
    • Legislative advocacy for mental health and senior services
    • Approving development and dissolution of Board committees
    • Specific experience and/or knowledge in at least one area: administration, board functions, personnel, finance, legal, legislative, fundraising, public relations, marketing or property management
