AARP Tax Return Preparer

Tax Aides to work with taxpayers directly, filling out tax returns and helping them seek a refund. This service is provided for moderate and low-income taxpayers with special attention to persons age 50 and older. Both federal and state returns are prepared including 1040 with Schedules A, B, D, C within limited expenses, 1099, Schedule K-1, Health Savings Accounts and other forms. Complicated and complex returns are not accommodated.

No prior tax preparation experience is required.  Volunteers must be comfortable working with computers and software.  Training on the latest tax preparation forms and software is required. Training will be conducted at the Palatine Senior Center in January.  Dates TBD. Some flexibility with on line training is possible if unable to attend all training days. Tax preparers must pass a Certification test at end of training.

Volunteers are asked to commit to one same day each week during the tax season of February 1 to April 15. Computer experience required, tax-training is provided. Not all sites are open every day of the week; exact placements will be based on your available day of the week.

You will be assigned to one of eight locations: Arlington Heights Senior Center, Arlington Heights Library, Alcott Park District Center, Wheeling Township, Des Plaines Frisbee Senior Center, Elk Grove Senior Center, Mt. Prospect Village Hall, and Palatine Senior Center. This is a skills based volunteer (SBV) opportunity.
