Intergenerational Pen Pal Program
For today's elementary school generation, there has never been a time when email, video conferencing, and text messaging weren't the norm. Yet, there's something to be said about old-school communication and the benefits it had. Join our Pen Pal program to help jump-start these students' enthusiasm for writing and expand their comprehension and writing skills.
This school year, join a group of volunteers who, due to certain restrictions, will virtually connect with Bilingual and English Language Arts (ELA) elementary students, to engage in handwritten communication. Pen Pals are asked to commit a minimum of 2 hours a month to exchange information and ideas with an assigned student(s) based on their teacher's classroom curriculum. All correspondence is supervised by the classroom teacher and the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP project director. The Program runs from October through June.
Due to interaction with students, background checks are required.
Age Minimum (with Adult): 55+, Minimum Age:55+
