Care Companion - Glenview
Care Companion volunteers serve in one of the most important capacities: spending time with patients and families visiting our Glenview in-patient unit (IPU). Following infection control procedures, Care Companions will visit with patients and families and incorporate books, music, art, and games to provide comfort. They also provide IPU tours, escort Activity Volunteers to their destination, and respond to call lights. This assignment is also responsible for cleaning and maintaining the unit's Activity Cart (containing games, art supplies) as well as stocking Nourishment Centers and tidying up the family room. This role is extremely rewarding and one that undoubtedly leaves the volunteer feeling a strong connection to our mission of making every moment count for our patients and families. Success in this assignment depends on having a calm and comforting presence that will help patients and families to have the best experience they possibly can. Shifts are available every day of the week and typically last 3 hours. Orientation & Training After our 4-hour orientation, Care Companion Volunteer applicants will continue their training through engaging online courses and will then shadow a current Care Companion Volunteer to become oriented to this role and our Hospice Center. Applicants must also get a 2-step tuberculosis (TB) test.
