Prairie State CERT Challenge

The 2013 Prairie State Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Challenge will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA) in Glenview, IL. The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills such as
  • Fire safety
  • Light search and rescue, team organization
  • Disaster medical operations
Using the training learned in the classroom and during the exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

This event, hosted by the Illinois Emergency Manegement Agency, will be bringing in teams from all over Illinois to test their skills in a simulated disaster situation. Volunteers are needed in various positions, including registration of guests and CERT teams, working as "victims" in simulations, and other duties to help setup and manage the event.
