Event Day Volunteer Opportunities

1)      VOLUNTEER CHECK IN (6:00AM – 6:30AM)

On the morning of the event, 2 volunteers (COORDINATORS) will be needed to assist at the volunteer check in. These volunteers will check in the volunteers against a master list, or add and assign new volunteers to our records. Each volunteer will receive a t-shirt and instructions, along with a site map.

2)      RUN DAY PICK UP & REGISTRATION FOR 5K RUN AND KIDS’ DASH (6:30AM – 8:15AM)

On the morning of the event, 4 volunteers will be needed to process those who are already pre-registered or registering for the 5K Run or Kids’ Dash. These assignments include cashiers, assigning and passing out bib tag numbers. (Many registrants will have pre-registered through the mail or via the on-line registration.) In addition, these volunteers will also hand out swag bags and t-shirts. Volunteers should be able to handle questions and a flurry of activity all at once; good at multi-tasking.

3)      GREETERS / INFORMATION ATTENDANT (6:30AM – 8:15AM)

On the morning of the event, 4 volunteers will assist people by directing them to the various locations throughout the event site. These volunteers will also answer questions and help with crowd control.

4)      RUN COURSE MARSHALS (8:30AM – 11:00AM)

On the morning of, and during the event, 15 volunteers will be placed along the run & walk course to direct and encourage the runners and walkers. Volunteers will be driven out or walk to the course and picked up or walk back after the event is over. The volunteer coordinators will describe the duties, depending on the designated course location. A bright orange vest or flag will issued to each volunteer. Weather-friendly attire should be worn.

5)      COURSE WATER DISTRIBUTORS (8:30AM – 11:00AM)

On the morning, during and after the event, 4 volunteers will be required to fill water cups one third full with water at a water station at the halfway point of the run. Emphasis will be placed on keeping the tables full and cleaning the area after the runners & walkers have passed. Volunteers at this station should be enthusiastic and prepare to cheer on the runners & walkers as the participants receive water.

6)      FINISH LINE WATER DISTRIBUTORS (8:30AM – 11:00AM)

On the morning, during and after the event, 4 volunteers will be required to fill water cups one third full with water at the start and finish lines. Participants will be able to help themselves to the water, but emphasis will be placed on the volunteers keeping the tables full and keeping the area clean (discarding used cups into garbage cans and bagging up garbage cans when full). This will involve packing the cups as tightly together onto the tables to maximize the number available to participants at any given time.  Volunteers will need to continually fill up the new cups as supplies are depleted.

7)      KIDS’ DASH (9:30AM – 10:30AM)

On the morning of the event, 4 volunteers will be needed to assist with the Kids’ Dash. Volunteers will assist with lining up the children by age and gender groups, as well as to assist in passing out awards as each child finishes.

8)      POST EVENT REFRESHMENTS (8:30AM – 11:00AM)

On the morning, during, and after the event, 5 volunteers will be in charge of organizing the refreshments before the event. These will consist of bagels, fruit, water, lemonade, etc. Crowd control, as well as refreshment distribution will be organized so that the “back of the pack” runners & walkers are able to enjoy the refreshments as well, after the run & walk finishes. This duty also includes cleanup, break down of boxes, and collection of bags.

9)      SETUP & TEARDOWN (6:15AM – 11:00AM)

On the morning, during, and after the event 6 volunteers will be in charge of setting up the event site, tearing down after the event is complete, and also making sure the park is clean.

**NOTE: All volunteers will receive instructions on event day. No prior training is necessary for most volunteer duties. All jobs are fun and interactive with the runners and walkers.
