Volunteer at Kids Obstacle Challenge
Kids Obstacle Challenge is an adventure and obstacle course event series for kids ages 5-16. Parents get to run for free. Our mission is to inspire and challenge kids, and forge family bonds, through adventure and obstacles. We proclaim, “Brave Your Adventure!” to encourage kids to courageously face the obstacles they will encounter on our adventure courses and carry that courageousness over to the obstacles they will encounter in life. We are expecting up to 2,000 kids and 7,000 people in total. We are teaming up with Hands On Suburban Chicago to find volunteers for our Chicago Kids Obstacle Challenge event at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake. We need 5-10 volunteers from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. the day before the event, June 23 and 20-30 volunteers from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the day of the event, June 24. On Friday, June 23, the day before the event, when we are setting up obstacles, we would prefer older volunteers (i.e., 15 years or older), if possible. On the day of the event, June 24, we would prefer 10-12 older volunteers (i.e., 15 years or older) to man some of our larger obstacles (e.g., cargo net climb-overs, A-Frames, Rope Swing, etc.), if possible, along with any parent volunteers. The remaining 10-18 volunteers could be younger than 15 years old, but no younger than 14. Also, we will be staking off parts of the course and setting up 10-15 obstacles over 1.5-2 miles the day before the event and we will be having the volunteers help us with that set up and with stuffing goodie bags. On the day of the event, volunteers will be assigned to starting line, obstacles, finish line, merchandise tent, registration tent, water/shower station, trash, and potentially other areas, and we will rotate volunteers so none of them are stuck on the same duty.
